At a glance

Led regional digital-content and campaign-presentation operations across Carrefour's MENA presence, managing an 11-person multinational team in addition to country-level managers, and helping local markets work from shared standards without sacrificing cultural and linguistic relevance. The work covered homepage merchandising, campaign assets, products, promotional messaging, web/app experiences, and guidelines for consistent execution.

The challenge

A regional retail brand needs to feel instantly recognizable from one market to another, while reflecting the realities of each local audience. Product assortments, offers, shopping habits, cultural cues, and language differ between markets such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon.

At the same time, homepage promotions and product pages change frequently. Without shared specifications, review standards and publishing practices, different local teams can produce inconsistent customer experiences—even when they're all working under one global brand.

My contribution

At Carrefour's regional headquarters, I helped define how campaigns and products should be presented across digital channels and guided the teams responsible for delivering that work.

My areas of responsibility included:

  • Homepage and campaign merchandising: Guiding the selection, structure and messaging of promotional banners, featured products and offers so the homepage reflected campaign priorities and local commercial needs.
  • Digital content standards: Establishing criteria for product descriptions, imagery, promotional copy, content quality and presentation consistency.
  • Localized execution: Providing a common brand framework while adapting copy, dialect, cultural references and campaign substance to the needs of individual markets.
  • Operating guidelines: Developing practical production and website-update guidelines so teams could implement campaigns and maintain quality with greater consistency.
  • Multichannel coordination: Overseeing work connected to websites, apps, social, CRM/email and related campaign touchpoints, while coordinating with agencies and stakeholders.
  • People and partner leadership: Managing an 11-person multinational, multilingual team alongside country-level marketing managers, external agencies, freelancers and suppliers, with involvement in campaign planning, creative quality, budget and retainer oversight.

“One recognizable Carrefour experience, adapted intelligently to local markets.”

The strategic approach

The objective was one recognizable Carrefour experience, adapted intelligently to local markets.

Rather than either forcing identical campaign content everywhere or allowing every market to invent its own rules, the work established a shared visual and editorial foundation. Market teams could adapt the message, language, and offer selection while preserving the brand's standards for hierarchy, assets, descriptions, and digital presentation.

This made content governance a core part of the marketing operating model.

Outcome

The program helped regional and local teams deliver campaigns within clearer shared standards, with more consistent brand presentation and a stronger framework for market-appropriate localization. It also enabled the regional team to coordinate recurring, high-volume promotional and merchandising demands across 15 markets.

What this demonstrates

Regional scale is not just about publishing more. It requires a repeatable system, clear accountability, and informed local adaptation. Effective marketing operations give teams enough structure to work consistently and enough flexibility to communicate meaningfully to their own audiences.
